apart from getting your hosting account taken down and prosecution including a possible fine......no

Is there any risk to rob a purse of an old woman ?

ok, once again:
Your hoster will receive a mail from piratereports asking to shut your site down.
Then your site will be taken down, your account suspended / canceled, and you MIGHT
face a possible fine though i never heard of someone being fined for running a vb null.

u have self hosting, but offline
Obviously kidding as things like lamp and xampp can be used to host webservers from home, right. Only thing to think of is your actual upstream bandwidth. If you got a 10Mbit upstream why not host from home. Setup dyndns and you are good to go. Of course xampp installation should be hardened as the config that comes with it isn´t really that secure

Is there any risk to use a nulled version of vBulletin?

use a keygen version and there´s no problem, search a offshore host and be sure that the host isn´t located in USA or in UK,search for one in Russia or in other places like that, i´ve been running that since while ago( my host allow that version) Web site Hosting by Dot5Hosting, it´s cheap, so try it, and yes that´s a risk using that vB version, if your site doesn´t point to any illegal content such as warez site buy a license in vBulletin.com

The risk depends on where you live and where you host.

You:
- may be ask for compensation
- may be sued for using nulled version
- may get into jail of using nulled version

Host:
- cancel your account prematurely without refund
- you lose your database and all files if you don't backup in time
- pass out your info to vBulletin owners

Man 100000000's of people use nulled vBulletins. How are they going to sue/jail that many people? They won't. They will just get your website shut off most likely.

Getting your website shut off is a very bad thing, any ideas we can avoid this!

If you afraid that much, why not to use phpbb or any other opensource scripts? Above ppl have just telling possibilites, anything can happen! Simply way is to buy the licence or go for opensource (if you are afraid that much)

Enjoy :)
