imac help how to delete desktop icons?

So on my imac, i have the bar at the bottom with all of the icons like safari, ichat, and imovie. but i accidentally put some on the desktop and now they are in both places. how do i delete the ones on the desktop, but keep them on the bar on the bottom? thanks.<br />
but when i delete them, then it won't let me click on the one in the bar, it says that it has been deleted.<br />

I think you may have installed the actual application on the desktop instead of in the Application Folder. See if this is the case by looking for it in Applications.
If you can't find it there, then I am right. Just drag the icon on your desktop to the applications folder.
