Just registered yesterday and am still waiting for domain name propagation.......but can somebody help me with a phpBB board installation?

At the beginning I downloaded the phpBB 2.0.4 from their website and uploaded the whole thing to the server by FTP. When I tried to set up the forum I was required to key in (1) Database Server Hostname DSN; (2) My Database Name (3) Database Username; (4) Database Password. I don't know these perimeters. I got a service ticket and sent the question to the help center, but there has not been any reply for more than three hours..... Can somebody tell me those perimters please?

I also tried to use CPanel to have phpBB 2.0.2 installed. But there were problems when I tried to manually upgrade to 2.0.4. When I finished the upgrade process by running through upgrade_to_204.php, I encountered HTTP 404 error whenever I tried to login as the administrator. I couldn't get access to the administrator panel.....some actions would also lead to the same problem.

And there's nobody answering my service request for more than a few hours......

Can anybody help me with these? Thanks
Honestly, I've never attempted an upgrade to the 2.0.2 version of phpBB that is stock with cPanel. So, I'm no help.

I would suggest that you refer your question to the authorities of the software: phpBB.com

Their user community forums are a plethora of support.

Lianna

The database server hostname is "localhost"
2. database name. Put your login in front of your db name that you choose. for example lets say my login is "total" so put it like this "total_dbname" fill in dbname with whatever you choose.
3. Do the same as number 2 with your username that you choose.
4. Password, simple just type in your password you choose.

Try that and tell me if that works.

ANyway, thanks very much for your help!

Regarding the other question that I encountered 404 error after upgrade, this is actually a problem encountered by many users. There is an extremely sticky long post (with more than 200 replies) in the phpBB forum regarding this, and this problem apparently is due to a bug in the problem. People have suggested amendments to some of the files, which are quite troublesome in my opinion. So my suggestion to those who want to have phpBB 2.0.4: manually install the whole thing through FTP instead of installing 2.0.2 through Cpanel and then upgrade.

Why 2.0.4? As the phpBB website says, bug fixes and important security improvement
