Can I Move my Site?

I have a website hosted with Tripod. Is there any way that I can move that site somewhere else? Tripod won't allow you to transfer your domain name to them so I'm trying to come up with an alternate solution. I would appreciate any help with this.

I tried copying my website files to my computer but my Windows unzip program wouldn't work to unzip them. I think they are protected from being used elsewhere. Is this right?
What did you use to build your sites? Was it something through tripod? Maybe save the html and export to a different editor?
I used Tripods site builder program. I will see if I can export the html to a different editor. Thank you for the suggestion. I'm thinking I may have to copy my content and rebuild the site elsewhere. darn! I sure wish they would allow domain transfers to their site. I know many other webhosts allow it for a small fee.

QUOTE(ozzie @ Sep 25 2006, 02:22 PM)

I have a website hosted with Tripod. They should cover that in the FAQ area or call their customer service department. Some companies have a certain time period you must wait before you transfer domain names and information, such as 30, 60 or even 90 days. I've encountered the same situation, where I bought several domain names and then began hosting, but was not at all happy with their service. I had to wait 90 days to be able to transfer the domain names to another host site, although I could have copied the code for my pages and hosted it else where under a different name.

Hope that helps.
As suggested before, the domain name transfer will depend style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I'm thinking I may have to copy my content and rebuild the site elsewhere. darn! Tripod is aggravating with their popup ads and their limitations. If you are going to use a subdomain or free host, and you have your html pages built, then go to atspace, they are the best in not putting ads on your pages.
