Alt tag as good as normal text?

I have a friend that has a site with an index page that only contains images. I know this is bad when it comes to SERPS. My question is: Should he redo the entire site or would it be enough to enter all texts in alt tags(yes, he have images with texts)? Will the result be about the same as with normal text?absolutely same thing,google spiders read them without any differentHm.. I am not so sure. I think actual text has more strength. The SEPRS could be high for alt b/c it could be from the links with the anchor text.Alt tags have nothing on content. Alt tags have been way over abused. Content is king.besides the seo problems of text on images, its heavy on bandwidth too: remove the text from the images and use css to position absolutely. Then everyone is a winner
