_loadScriptsInternal firing off many many times

I have a page with has a bunch of controls (including ajax toolkit controls) inside of an update panel. I am optimizing all aspects of this page and have ran across a javascript function that is being called many many times. The function is called _loadScriptsInternal and it looks like its coming from either the Ajaxtoolkit scripts or the Microsoft AJAX scripts. Is anyone familiar with this function and why it is being called so many times?Thanks, Mike
