you want to use a separate database or the same one?

New database should work same database will be problems. You have to change the "settings" so they don't point to your original installation. Also in config.php you will need to change the path pointer there as well as the database connection to your test database but it should coexist as long as you keep your paths separate.
 
nvm its kool i was gonna test a new skin on it

but i had no choice but to install a new skin. i messed up the cvars and css on old 1 and couldnt just reinstall due to all the modifactions i added. so i installed a new skin and currently working in copying my modifications
