Will Change in Title Tag affect SERP

I am getting my main keyword to the top of the SERP's. I am in position 7 right now for a very competetive keyword(s). For instance, my keyword is ABC. ABC also happens to be my first 3 words in my title tag on my homepage.

I would like to alter my title tag to a more broad, but similar keyword. If I do this, will it have a major affect on my SERP for that specific keyword(s)?

Keep in mind that my high PR backlinks from PR5+ are all using the anchor text for my target keyword. Thanks in advance for any advice I doubt will make a big difference. If you notice a difference after the page is cached again, you can always switch back. But if is a high competitive word, I doubt it. I have personal experience about this issue.
Let me explain.

If you are ranking no7 for your main keyword which is the first keyword of your title.
Let say "Main keyword here and other keywords later"
Then changing title can affect your current ranking.

If the main keyword is your second keyword.
Let say "Other keywords and the main keyword:
Then changing title tag can increase your ranking from no7 to no.6 or 5

The keywords which comes first in the title will get high ranking and other will get low ranking in search engines I think you should try to do it. A good tag can help! Quote: Originally Posted by getreffs I have personal experience about this issue.

and is very relative. the rankings are probably backed up by backlinks As long as you don't drop your main keyword from the title then you should be fine. But to be honest, if you already ranking pretty good why change anything? Sounds to me like you just need a few more links. If your site is already ranking you must not change it automatically it can affect really.
I must say if it has decent ranking don't change. Just update the contents if I were you. Cheers... If you have great number of quality backlinks then it won't have great impact, but if you have only few backlinks the will have for sure...

Try to play with it and find the combination that best suits your needs...

Nemanja I think it might have a negative impact on your SERP on that keyword because title tag is the most important factor for on-page SEO. Thus, the position of your keywords would affect your ranking. IMO.

Have a nice day, yes must dear. surely effected on your page ranking.

Thanks I don't think that it will affect quickly or effect as well. The website pages are not cached at a time, they are cached after specific time duration. You must choose a relevan an right keyword ....and put that keyword in tilte...

Thanks ... Yes, Meta tag changes will effect your website ranking surely, because update will either boost up your keyword or it will reduce your ranking of your keywords in major search engines. I think it will not affect your SERP rankings since the title tag is not connected to the link itself. I don't think it will make a big difference but map out your main keywords with smart way Quote: Originally Posted by Franklinbkr I don't think that it will affect quickly or effect as well. But this is not the trick of it, because if you can use the effective way for mapping your main keywords within the body content. I guess it should affect a bit, not a large drift in the SERP. If your backlinks are for the keyword which you have optimized properly with the anchor text, it will make no difference your title should have your keyword in there. it will only help. It's ok if your site is not ranking in serp. But if it is, then it could really hurt your site ranking. I like to share one of my experience - one of my KW "ABCD" got #2 in Google SERP.
(AB - also meaningful)

I like to be in top for the KW:"AB", so i changed the title as "AB and ABCD" (before it is "ABCD" only) - and I got good ranking for both "AB" and"ABCD".

There is no change in ranking for ABCD as well. It might be because of I have still ABCD in my title ..

But I strongly feel that if you have changed the KW as another relevant KW - I guess there won't be any change in the SERP.

If those are high competitive KW means, thing may change. I really wanna to try something like this in the future, will share you all the same..
