Hi guys!
Lets say I have a EMD with the keyword "wedding-dresses" and that I rank #2 on this term. If I now redirect it to a store that sells wedding-dresses would the store rank #2 for that keyword?
And if I would like to build more backlinks to push it to rank #1, should I do this by creating backlinks to the original domain?
Thanks! A 301 redirect will pass on most of the PageRank.
But that's not the issue. PageRank is only one of the factors that gets you to do well in search results.
Changes in content, domain name, age, markup and many other factors will determine how your new page will perform.
Don't create backlinks to the original domain if it's your new domain your marketing. Use 301 redirects from the old one and try and get all its backlinks updated to link to the new one so they give you their full benefit. I would agree with you if one of my money sites which I converted to a spam blog still didn't rank same for its main keyword (now containing unrelated content and links) it has done so for 1-2 months.
But your way of thinking sound a lot more logical then the results that I have. I'm confused ^^ If you type "redirect" into the advanced forum search you'll find about a page of threads that have the word in the title just in the last 6 months. The ones I see explain not only how they work but the actual code used to create one.
For the sake of continuity will close this thread and let you take it up in the ongoing discussions instead of yet another thread. Please check before creating a thread so you dont miss the discussions already in progress.
