Wiki?

Hi all! I've recently been given the assignment of redesigning and rebuilding my university's Computer-Aided Engineering website. With the new site we are making a focussed effort on keep the information as up-to-date as possible, so we want to allow any employee to be able to edit any page as they are surfing through the site. I like how Wiki works, but does anyone know if there is a version or add-on or something similar to Wiki that allows us to restrict access to the Edit command? Wiki is great for some things, but here we will be dealing with precise information and we don't want to allow just anyone to edit it.

I guess what I'm looking for is a script or a plugin that we could link to a webpage (so that we can maining a consistent look and feel throughout the site) that would provide the editing abilities of a Wiki (or at least something similar) to those to whom we choose to give them.

Another example of what I'm looking for is Macromedia Contribute. However, I would prefer that the user be able to edit the pages from their own browser, as they are browsing (plus many of the employees are Unix-purists who would never even think of using Contribute!)

Thank you for all your help!
