I have some questions about the site: surfboardwax.com
This site has over 600 back links, a PR of 3, and the dot com of the keywords "surfboard wax" in a niche that is NOT THAT competitive. Why then, would this domain be found on the second page of google and not the first? Maybe the on page optimization could be better? Anyone have any ideas? anyone want to take a stab at this? I was doing research last night on this niche and thought it was odd that this domain was not on the first page. I'm hoping I can learn a few things from this example and maybe others can too. It's not about the quantity of links, nor the PageRank. Have you looked beyond the quantity of links? Notice anything in common about them? hmm..I checked out the links again and noticed there are links from all kinds of other sports sites from body boarding to wake boarding to kite surfing and so on...
but I think what you're getting at is that the links seemed to be from sites owned by the same person? That's one aspect - I seriously wonder about the value of such links anymore. Consider how much weight you would give those links if you were scoring them.

Notice anything else about them? Yeah. I also notice that quite a few of the links use the exact same storefront template. As if Amazon bought 100's of domain names relevant to their products and set up the store that way instead of 1 big store. Is that what you were thinking? Not the sites, the actual links themselves. Pretty poor quality if you were trying to obtain links to help you rank for specific terms, wouldn't you agree? yeah, I would have to agree. Thanks for taking a look at this. I just found another site in a different industry that made it all the way to the second page on google. The only thing they have on the page is a video of a drum solo of themselves and nothing else except for the keyword in the title... The title tag has been determined to be one of the more important ranking factors. Combined with inbound quality links it can help quite a bit. A number of SEO's participated in a survey and rated various elements and the title tag was one of the top 5 factors.
If you haven't seen it, it's a pretty good read:
Search Engine Ranking Factors thanks for the link. Yes, it is a VERY good read. Just continue link building dude especially on a related site. I have investigated further more on your website and found a few of possible reason for poor ranking.
1. Your site has only 9 link popularity in Google according to link: search operator. I assume most of your backlinks come from the sites owned by you.
2. Your title tag is really bad and look like spammy in my opinion. You may consider to adjust your title tag first. Please be noted - any change you made to title tag would sjae your site ranking for a period of time before its stable again.
