Which version of Jane Eyre the movie is closer to the book?

Is the 1996 version or 2006 version of jane eyre is better and closer to the book? please anyone who has seen either or both let me know what you liked!<br />

I love the book and liked the most recent adaptation, but for me the black and white 1944 version sums up the bleakness of her destination as described in the book.
