Listening to doesn't not mean you take action on everything they say, just that you read their articles and decide for yourself whether you want to try what they suggest.
Which SEO experts do you listen to and why?
I read a lot of SEO articles so I'll start the conversation:
The Search Engines Themselves
Who better to get first hand information from but the search engines themselves!
Google
Google provides lots of information if you take the time to follow their blogs and any other information they put out there. They also have the most extensive Webmaster Help section compared to the others. They have a channel at YouTube called GoogleWebmasterHelp for those who do better listening or seeing things visually. It may appear I am a wantabe Googler but they put out so much information regularly it's hard not to share with you all seeing everyone seems to be obsessed with Google and pay little attention to the "other" guys.
Yahoo!
Yahoo! is fed by Bing these days but they still have their own Webmaster Guidelines posted. Yahoo! also has their Search blog plus others like their corporate blog.
Bing
Bing has Guidelines for successful indexing besides other Tools articles. You might be interested in following their SEO blog and Webmaster Center blog.
The key: Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Great ones fall. Sometimes they rise again, sometimes they don't.
Your turn.
Be respectful of someone else's opinion. Everyone will have one. It doesn't make them wrong because you don't agree. I listen to Randfish and Dr. Pete at SEOMoz, Aaron Wall at SEOBook, Darren Rowse at Problogger, Ann Smarty @ from different sites she has participation, Matt Cutts when he has funny things to say, Brad Callen for the basics.
Some in the list may not be SEO experts themselves, but at least they offer something that affect/contribute to my SEO. As other beginners in SEO, My Icon is Rand at SEOmoz. I believe blindly on them because they are the only resource that can give deep insight of search engine’s (at-least for me). Some time I tried to read and gain some knowledge from SEObook but couldn’t able understand what they want to convey (I don’t know the reason).
Rand is my SEO mentor how solved my problems more than 90% with his informative post. Just one sentence, "Don't follow others' footmarks,,, anyone hadn't received success following others", Just research, and if you implement what you think is good... I've not read too many SEO blogs/sites, but I've always found that the community members at sites liek v7n, digital point, web pro world and more, see to be pretty savvy in this. As many of them make their living doing so. So I know that the things they say have some ground, as I too am wanting to make my living doing this. I follow many bloggers and Seo experts, when many of them say same thing it means that news or research is correct. ... I mean there is nothing wrong in following seo experts but ultimately it's your decision which technique you like to follow. I follow to myself only by keeping Google webmaster guidelines in mind!! Besides using common sense, there are a few experts (blogs) i view everyday for tips, tricks and news. I don't always agree with what i read but they do know there SEO stuff and been around for many years.
