vbadvanced:
Product Overview

This website has a Product overview, you can read all the info about vbadvanced.
What you do want to use ?
Some people like vbadvanced, others like vbportal.
For vbportal, you can change what appears on any page, content, banners, advertisements, blocks/custom blocks etc. For example if you click on the download module, you could select to display blocks with links to download sites, and these blocks would only appear in the download module. Same with Links module, blocks could contain related links to other websites. You can also decide the permissions on a user group basis for all the above.
For vbadvanced, it uses the same styles as your normal VB styles. Each module (each "square" on the home page) is done via templates so you can further customize if you want. You are able to create your own modules with php or html.
Its difficult as the two systems do not offer the same level of resources, if all you want is a front page with a few extra pages for custom content then vbadvanced should do nicely. If you want something with greater flexibility and freedom for what appears within modules or custom pages and can grow as your site develops then vbportal is the way to go.
I'd suggest taking the time to check out both and see which fits your needs better.
