When will my rankings stabilize?

Hi

I own a site www. healthinsurancebluebook .com and have been optimizing it for about 9 months at this point.

The goal is to rank for all health insurance business keywords and state keywords for each state in US.

So the highest we got up to is position 9 on keyword [health insurance plans] and there were multiple first page even first spot results for longer tailed keywords. There were lots of them so I cant come up with a precise list.

The problem is the rankings come and disappear. Sometimes they are there and then disappear for two weeks, come up for one week then disappear again. There is a steady pattern of having rankings go on and off, VERy OFTEN.

Why is this going? When could the domain stop jumping back and forth in search engines and actually stabilze? Can I do anything to make it stabilize?

Also when I ranked in position 9 for health insurance plans. I got only about 3 visitors per day. The keyword gets around 60000 searhes per month. Why did I get so few visitors?

What are your takes on above problems? I would appreciate any help. Anybody? I would greatly appreciate any criticism on my SEO. Well your rankings will most likely always bounce around. Google does this. You won't ever just latch onto the #7 spot and stay there. They are always changing their algorithm, and your competitors are always building more backlinks, etc. Just keep working on backlinks and adding content to your site. This is because of tough competition and you competitors are working better than you. So you should start working harder than them, Apart prom this try Link exchange, spend some more money on PPC, start doing the banner advertising(if you r nt doing), they are very helpful, About the visitors Google Algorithms says 75% visitor goes to the site which is at position 1 so if you are at no 9 you can understand where the visitors going. In addition to what bdunndchi said........

You are in a pretty competitive niche there, so you can pretty much assume all the people in the top spots have seo companies working for them, so the likelihood is, each time you get to the top for a paying keyword, they will put in the effort to take that slot back again.

Firstly, are the 60,000 searches per month based on the adsense keyword tool (or similar)? if so, this data is not accurate (especially with broad match on), the only accurate data you can get is with Analytics.

When you ranked in position 9, think about who were the 8 results above you. Particularly the first 3-4. Are they offering the same as you? Are they well known brands and companies? Are their titles and descriptions relevant to the search term? If the answer to all these is yes, you will really need to be in the top 3-4 to get a high volume of clicks, as why would anyone need to scroll down the page.

If you can't make the top of the page, you will need something unique which the competition above you is not offering, this will encourage those who do scroll down the page to click your listing, either that or just focus on less competitive, but higher return keywords which you can achieve a top slot for. Thanks for your replies guys. I also wanted to ask could anyone criticize the content of my site?

And perhaps the SEO that I have already done? Both on site and offsite? Actually, doing an exact math search gets 5400 Global searches which is less than 10% of what you thought. Be consistent in your linkbuilding. If you are ranking 1-2 words per state, that is 50-100 words a month. Pretty tough to be consistent each month on your linkbuilding efforts. Maybe that is why you are bouncing around? My guess is you're dealing with extremely competitive search phrases, so you'll probably need tens of thousands of quality backlinks to rank on the first page for the good ones. Google always changes their algorithm, so you better be patient, its a never ending battle.

We are very consistent on link building actually. You know very well what happens if we wont be.

Regarding searches I am kind of confused actually. What is the real thing happenning here? [health insurance plans] does get 60500 local searches in US according to adwords keyword tool.

So is that actaully true?

I have assumed it is becuase there is a high demand for health insurance in US, so would be weird if such a high competitive phrase would be searched less.

But what are the real numbers? I also wondered when can be stable results with Yahoo/MSN be expected. Currently the site is on page 5 in Yahoo and page 4 in MSN for [health insurance plans]. Is there any way to know how the site moves up in those 2?

I do see that the rankings in Yahoo/MSN do not jump as much. They have been on those pages over a month with little movement.

So what are your takes on those 2 SEs? Is there anything to tweak to get ranked on those 2 faster? So what are your opinions on Yahoo/MSN? It would never happen because there a lot of sites competes to yours so the better way to stay on the rankings is to work harder and be unique.
