I have been working on few keywords in the forum signatures to bring them top in the Google. However, if I wish to switch the primary keyword and update the forum signatures what will be its effect in the SERP Yes it will effect in the ranking in search engine because it change the anchor text definitely affect the Search position Yes it will effect in the ranking in SERPs because it is counted as backlinks for search engines. If you change the keywords then the search engine will decrease the weightage for that keyword. So the ranking might be affected. Do one thing, signup in any other forums and use your primary keywords in there signature. As the links of the firm have little influence on the ranking anyway, I doubt the change would have much effect. It will effect the ranking in search engine because your website and Title both are change. It will probably not have a automatic effect. The search engines would have to crawl the page again to see that the links have changed. That is when you would see the affect. That said, it would help you for your new keyword and hurt you for the old keyword. If the pages are never crawled again (highly doubtful) you wouldn't see any difference. It's definite once you have changed your signature all your previous posts will get an updation regarding signature, but this will happen if these pages crawls again. However a page that was crawled 1 month ago has no chances to crawl again and you will get same link juice from same keyword forever in that case. You have to wait till google re index those pages and reconsider your new anchor text.

But i have seen that It doesn't effect on website ranking. Quote: Originally Posted by ipexpert I have been working on few keywords in the forum signatures to bring them top in the Google. It may also affect your website's overall rankings if those signature links have been in your backlinks. Since you have already created stable backlinks for a specific keyword, switching to other keyword will result to losing all the backlinks that already created. Signatures are more useful for long tail terms and other techniques. However, when you change a signature there is a history trail of old signatures that takes quite a will to change or disappear. I'd say that if you have properly distributed your link building efforts to a lot of websites other than forums (Sb sites, SN sites, articles, prs, etc etc), once the changed signature has changed, there wouldn't really be that much changes to your SERP.

I change my sig every once in a while and I don't worry and actually haven't observed any time that my keywords fluctuated because of it. I know forum pages gets crawled a lot cause the content changes a lot so I wouldn't really say that there aren't any changes because it hasn't been crawled. If you have 100 forum posts with one specific title in signature. They boost your website in serp. Just you change the title, your new keyword replaces all previous ones. Naturally you will see some loss in ranking. But don't bother much. If you have already strengthen your website with other methods also. you may stay on your position. I don't think it affects a lot because we someone's website is not totally relying on forum signatures, there are many other places where search engine collects data against the keywords. Hi folks,

I agree with all the members but some forums do make signature links nofollow. It's done as a deterrent to signature link spammers, who mistakenly believe signature links to be of any more than of marginal worth. You have to check whether that forum where you want to change the signature link, is allowing Dofollow or Nofollow signature links.

Regards,
KM If you keep changing your signature the value of those links will diminish in search engine's eye if the older version have already been cached. Second, you might loss the number of back links to the previously linked pages if Google has counted them and it shows with "link" operator in Google search. I have a scenario, If we are using signatures for a cars selling website and for one or two months we use signatures of 4 or 5 cars and then cars sold out then what would be the situation because the cars referring to links are sold. signatures can be changed or not ? it take an effect in search engine. however it is quite good practice to expand your keywords that may result of increasing the traffic. it better to change if you think that such keyword build some reputation and credibility for searcher and SE too. it would not make an instant impact, but it does make an impact on your keywords because previously they were anchored and now they are not.
