i was checking checking my position in one keyword in google, then i check the 1st website appeared. i found out that this site was only made like 1 day or 2 days and suddenly they are topping the rank in one of the most competitive keyword. im just wondering what they did

One recent example of a well-known, corporate funded site here in Hawaii. Two local newspapers merged to make one conglomerate. Basically overnight, their newly launched website and domain name took the top position. If there's high anticipation and recognition surrounding an organization (doesn't even have to be specific to their web presence, it'll naturally gravitate there) they're just going to receive benefits as the nature of things.
With that being said, there's always the clever small business looking to "underdog" the competition. In our Hawaii Real Estate market, there's a few small businesses with clever SEO tactics, albeit Black Hat often times. But as they say, if you're an internet marketer, you've most likely participated in a black hat strategy at one point or another. really? what's the site's url and what are the keywords does this site ranks? i would like to check it myself. that's normal.. new site/page usually rank higher from the first week of its launch.. then drop after that.. It could be that the site's domain was registered previously and it has links linking to it already and / or just domain age. Or, if your keywords are very low competition this person might just have optimized better than you.
Check back links using Yahoo Site Explorer and let us know what you find and we can go from there... as far as i know is when i checked again, they were using blogspot as their domain and just make a new domain.
