what gets a higher CTR - internal page or homepage?

This is for organic listings.

My question is: In search engines, what generally is more appealing for users to click on, so that a higher CTR is achieved? - a homepage of the site ranked in SE's or an internal page? (assuming the same ranking position and that all other factors remain the same)

Is it better for me to get an internal page ranked very high in SE's or the homepage? That is my question.

I want to rank high for a keyword/phrase that has about 50k searches per month, but Im not sure whether I should target the homepage (which has yet to be optimised for many keywords and covers lots of topics) or whether I should use an internal page for that. The competitors in the market are all listing their homepage at the moment, but I'm not sure what the effective strategy would be.

Does anyone have any advice here?

Thanks in advance

P.S - My online business has been around for about 2 years, so I know the basics of SEO - just looking for some expert advice here to make sure I make the right decision. Hi, kads

I had the same problem my home page has 6 keywords. So I splitter into 3 below pages with 2 keywords each and it worked. They rank very nice on the first page of google results as if they were home page. The only trick I did, was a sitemap.xml, where my home has importance point 1.0, my 3 below have 0.93. After that I start from 0.8. I tried not to spend many points in order to leave enough points for my home and the 3 below.

So my opinion is that will work. That really depends but I will try ...

It is usually easier to get the homepage on top position then an internal page.

Many time the best way is to have the keyword appear in the homepage, along with other keywords, and to link from homepage to dedicated page with keyword, and get links with keyword for both pages, this is harder then doing everything on the homepage but this way you can optimize for more links.

I hope this helps a little... I'd say the page that is most relevant will be the most likely to convert. If someone has to navigate through your home page for a particular product, they may get sidetracked or frustrated or the phone might ring. Better to have them click onto the most relevant landing page. i believe both works as long as you have good rankings.. just like what mjtaylor said as long as it is relevant then its good.
