http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/stoptorture/about/ Erm...what? Are you asking why they are spamming the .edu domains?

Because .edu (and .gov) are considered to give very good backlinks. So, whenever a .edu/.gov has some sort of commenting system, it usually gets spammed to bits (if the mods are asleep). Many just set comment links to nofollow (like in your sample). So all they get is a normal link. No PR. If they are lucky they might get traffic, but I doubt that. I have heard that a lot of (dot) edu backlinks are good. Quote: Originally Posted by GMF Erm...what? Are you asking why they are spamming the .edu domains?

Thanks a lot for your explanation These backlinks give a lot of authority to the website they are linking to. By the way, the more comments an .edu blog has, the less weight it gives (so, anything more than 500 comments would be a waste of time ) .edu and .gov backlinks considered as good back links and gives high SERPS... They give high backlinks yes but it gives users an idea that the site is educational, means you can't run a business in such domain names Quote: Originally Posted by deviana why to many comment (maybe spam) and why he can get high PR?

http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/stoptorture/about/ Looking at the comments in reverse order (starting at the end), all those are comment spam done by people who run comment spam software and fool their customers that doing this is going to work and be good for their site. I have these all the time on my blogs.

Read the comments. I stopped at # 455 going back up. Bunch a fluff and not applicable comments that the blog owner should have removed and blocked the poster. This only degrades their blog post.

.edu backlinks are good - if you earn them on the merit of your work/content and don't spam their profiles and comments section (as demonstrated by your example).

I have some. Never spammed or suggested the addition. Just earned them by putting out good content applicable to the section of the education site they were so kind to link from. Agreed! building real .edu links or .gov links are most challenging. You must build real relationships and add great value, in order to earn these links. edu links that anyone can spam are useless. Get linked organically, that's different. And if this is for useless PR, then you're just wasting your time. Because, google considers the back links from .edu, .gov are high quality. As for my opinion our seo professionals have attached much value with .edu and .gov sites. Some add .mil (military) also in the list. I think if a page is full of spam comment, why a normal user stay there to click your website link. The second thing, if your site is Real estate and property related, why a user will search you on an education site. ? I think you should remind when you post on edu blog that is your post should be related to the discussion and informative so that the followers of that blog would be benefited. Then your comment might be considered less spamming. I wonder, did they switch the links to nofollow before or after the spammers came?

If before: these SEO guys/bots aren't worth their salt. Quote: Originally Posted by nimt.rohit .edu and .gov backlinks considered as good back links and gives high SERPS... Dude .edu and .gov backlinks not good dam good man. Its Precious It brings much value than normal backlinks. I'm not sure what you're asking, but .edu domains have no advantage in rankings. Matt Cutt has stated this several times in Google's Webmasters Tools Series.
