hi,
which techniques will increase as well as improve the traffic for a site?
will the same techniques provide the ranking higher for a page. If so, which technique has the highest priority in ranking? blogging can really help in driving visitors to your site, specially when you make your blog interesting and always updated.... Digging some old thread here can answer your question.

Traffic - word to mouth , social networking, advertisements - and obviously google first page for your main keywords.
usually -- if your website is interested. and you know what you are doing improving your traffic would help ranking in some way. - more links would help your ranking better though.

you can get mailing lists . you can advertise - go on forums post information and interesting articles with your signatures and so on I got my traffic by making a Fan Page on Facebook then update it regularly same as blogging. Social networks such plurk, myspace and multiply still helps a lot. Social bookmarking, Press Release and Article Submission works a lot too. Blog commenting.
