Anyone know how to convert a snapshot of a web page into an image. I can use html2pdf to convert it to pdf, but can't get ghost script installed to go from pdf to jpeg. anyone know of any other ways to do this. I guess we can use perl php cgi python or ruby on rails. Thanks.

Bruce,
I appreciate your response here, but i was kinda looking for something server side. I have a whole lot of sub domains of my hosted account, and was planning on make the www sub list each sub with a real time snapshot of what each sub looks like. I could always do the standard print screen, paste, resize....but really wanted something in real time. The applications you reference are all stand alone apps that i install here. and after searching google yesterday for hours, i came up with going from html to pdf, which i can now do server side thanks to some modifications of the php FPDF class. There are some perl scripts to go from PDF to JPG, but I dont have ghost script installed on the server to do that. Therein lies the problem, so im kinda running out of ideas. Anything else you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

QUOTE(TCH-Bruce @ May 30 2006, 06:33 PM)

Welcome to the forums digital

Maybe this or this will help.

Or check out the Google results for html to jpg converter

Welcome Digital!

It has to exist because places like ask.com have the site preview thumbnails and similar features are in other apps, but I did a search for it and couldn't find anything. Don't give up!

you guys are so smart, I'll have to come back here more often. I like these tips!
While not a server-side program I do like MWSnap.

I can run it off of my usb drive and and it has a function to pick colors off of the website. I have it save screenshots of pages that I like, so that I can have inspiration when creating a new webpage. The only thing I wish it had was a way to save the whole page and not just the part that is in the window. Otherwise, it is very handy.
The closest I have found is this:
http://www.phpclasses.org/browse/package/918.html

But it requires Hypersnap (or similar) and the permission to execute it through system("blah")

If you are a decent PHP hacker, maybe you can figure a workaround?
I have used a program called Paparazzi on a Mac and so while I was doing a little search for a possible Windows equivalent, I stumbled across this discussion.

It mentions a program called iPageSaver by Spidersoft.

The blurb on the website says: "iPageSaver lets you easily capture and save screenshots of webpages as images (jpg or png), Web archives (mht) or native html format. It's easy to use interface lets you quickly create permanent copies of any web page. You can also setup lists of webpage links to be automatically browsed and saved for you."

I haven't tried it, but it may be worth a look.

Cheers,

Dave
