Web 101 Question - Scrolling Thru Pictures

I am a very inexperienced webmaster (using this term very loosely) and have self taught myself what little I do know about web pages. And I hope this type of basic "how to" 101-level question is ok for this forum...

I took over a website early in 2005 and have for the most part only made modifications to the HTML created by a predecessor who was a much more highly skilled web master than I will ever be. My question is simple if someone could provide me some guidance:

- How do I build a link to auto or manual scroll thru a directory of photos (.jpg files)?
- What directory do I use to store my photos (.jpg files)? e.g., /public_html/images or ???

Thank you in advance for any assistance or pointers. I appreciate it.

Do you want to be able to see the pictures while scrolling? If so, you may want to use a gallery program.

You can store your photos in any directory you want.
Hi Barry,

Gail, who is a member here, made a page showing off the features of 3 different gallery scripts. You can see it here http://www.gailplayground.com/

The simplest to use of the three is the 'PHP Easy Thumbnailer'.

HTH, Tom
Thanks very much Tom. I have just looked at gailplayground.com and I think it will be helpful. I was looking earlier at the Gallery website (http://gallery.menalto.com) and that tool looked quite involved to use. Hopefully the 'PHP Easy Thumbnailer' will be easier for a person at my limited skill level.

Thanks again,
Barry
A couple more to look at are
Irfaview and picasa

Quick demos
my Irfanview demo
my picasa demo
Thanks very much Don. I'll definitely check these out.
