vBulletin 3.8.0 and 3.7.4

I don't understand,

Why did vBulletin develop version 3.8.0 and release the BETA stages on the forums, but then go back to 3.7 and develop 3.7.4, after 3.8.0? They should have continuing 3.7.x instead of jumping onto 3.8.x.

Because vBulletin 3.7.4 is the newest STABLE release, they need to take care of their customers. They clearly have noticed new bugs, or ideas that could be implemented in 3.7.x, and so they did. It's normal.

I found myself asking the same question they also made a new version of 3.6. called 3.6.12 which should be here shortly for those who use the older version. I agree that its kinda dumb to leap to 3.8.0 so soon when they could have made those fixs in 3.7.4 but you really cant complain because its free to you non members of vbulletin.org. I would say we let them work out the funny stuff and let us who contribute do so for those who want the software. I`m sure 3.8.0 will be way better the 3.7.x give it a few months and it will be stable and you can bet a day after or so after that release vbteam will have it for all to use you can be sure of that. As for now we can enjoy the fixes to 3.7.x till then.

I'm personally not so excited about 3.8.x, there's just more that 'community' stuff. In my opinion, they should focus more on developing vBulletin 4.0, with new look, functions, possibilities, etc. etc.

I believe 3.8.x is just to kill some of our time, so that we won't forget about vBulletin, when waiting for 4.0.x

I agree but In my opinion about 3.8.0 beta`s is there not much diffrent then 3.7.3/.4 which wasnt really any reason to make a unstable release available. They shoudl capitalize on the fact its hard to intergrate vbuletin with most CMS systems and set a team to develope it i would buy that product for sure aswell as a better gallery system set just for viewing. The real problems are the bugs its the limitaion of the software. if they made 4.0 have a built in gallery that would be worth the $180 owned membership. I like vbulletin but they only focused on one aspect of the site and vba cmps is crappy they should commision them to build a cms much like subdreamer so then there wouldnt even be a need to talk about versions and bugs. and vbulletin would make way more money that way. I hope by 4.0 stable that there compatiablity with other software is better at the least and the vbcms sucks they shoudl just make a cms that uses the users table and permissions table and be built off of its own stuff so that 4.0 or even a stable 3.8 will be better.

I hope there will be something like a CMS implemented in 4.0.x (something like in MyBB). Or they could just create an official product that would be officially supported. They should definitely focus on CMS, new style and integration with other scripts and sites (like youtube). Blogs and the whole 'social' system doesn't convience me. It's definitely not a path they should choose, in my opinion.

I agree the whole community stuff is pretty dumb I make suggestiosn on both vb.org and .com about making a new product I guess they dnot realize how mad customers are when they have to pay for a CMS and a brideg to there forum software. I would buy there official CMS and gallery and of course have it here aswell. They need to get there head out of there buns and see the light. Also .Void dont use the 3.7.4 version I saw on vb.org that theres a bug in it and I`ll upload the newest won to you guys tomorrow unless someone else reads this and has a liscense and gives it to ya.

Looks like we've got to wait till 3.7.11 / 12 is released, before we can get our hands on 4.0.
vBulletin 4.0 will take some time; as I've heard it will be 'revolutionary', so as we might expect from vBulletin, it has to take time to work on, so we won't see any crap from them. It's been some time since we've heard that they started working on vB v4, so I hope we will see some alpha or at least some screenshots soon.

Yeah they stated that in 2001 I mean theres no real difference to coding php in version 4 or 5 just in 5 you have a newer way to do the db connection but the old way works as well. 4.0 better be better then 3.x since there the standard in forum software. There probably upgrading there smarty and yui versions seeing as they added new yui libraries to 3.7.4. In any case I think they should use htmlpurifier its a very good filter to stop csrf and xss. Theres improvements that can be made very simply I`m sure there classes will be re-done and so wil there functions and hooks.

Have any of you guys tried a cms thats been tailored specifically for vbulletin and it's free!

vbdrupal.org

I run it on my front door and use the forum to do the heavy database work. The thing about vbdrupal is it uses the vbulletin mysql database. So there's one shared login between the cms and the forum. There is a bi-directional exchange of all vB data between the two products. This product rocks!

Running vbdrupal has given me a new look at running content management systems and vbdrupal is a pretty mature product with good support, oh and did i mention its free!
