vb increase price

Stupid pricing from VB. I was consider buying. But now, tell them to go rob the bank. Renewal fee $60 (100% increase) if not renewed within 60 days after license expired.

From 2nd June the following prices will apply:

* Owned license - $180
* Leased license - $100

License Renewals
For a Leased license, it is necessary to purchase a license Renewal in order to continue to run vBulletin on your site. For Owned licenses, it is not necessary to renew in order to continue using vBulletin, but is required in order to extend access to software updates.


From the June 2nd, the following changes will be coming into effect:

* Leased license Renewal pricing will be $100.
* Owned license Renewal pricing will be:
o $40 if purchased before the license expires or within 60 days after expiry
o $60 if purchased at any other time
* vBulletin Renewals will now also renew linked add-on products (details below)

long answer:
As with anything in this world good things cost money and with all the new upgrades and features created within the new 3.7 release I personally believe it to be well worth the asking price, and come on their staff do need to be paid for there work, without them you would either not have your forum or be using something like phpBB which though a great opensource forum software package and fastly growing to vb standards it is still not as good!

vB is probaby one of the best if not the best forum software packages around, and concidering you use it you must think the same, with the ever increasing flexiblity of administration options, mods/hacks, styles and a very large support forum run for and by vB clients possiblities are endless!

but at the end of the day tho its just greed and it sounds like a 20% price increase just because they feel like it!

they will get more pirates now than ever before
i hope vb dies because if theres no future versions and all we have left is vb 7 gold then thats good enough for anybody. im almost certain theres people out there that could make security patches if vb went forever because the php files are open source without encryption ;-)

before the price increase was ridiculous enough and this will just drive piracy for SURE.

^ you have some good points, regardless of this topic, there is ALWAYS one thing I have in my mind and that is that freaking VB ppl earn so much! Imagine the total amount of nrs and licenses ppl pay for! It is CRAZY!

with all the amount of money they earn they can do much more and offer much more what they are offering rightnow!

Sure it sucks a bit, but to be fair, there isn't a forum package as feature packed or as robust as vB and a small increase in the license is completely justifiable in my opinion. I have 3 licenses and will continue to renew them, and if I need a new forum, I'll buy another license without hesitation.

Just be thankful they are still using US$... A software package I use for my phone was $29.99 last year, it's €29.99 this year.

For 1 year, sure... But prices haven't increased for over 8 years. So, take the rate of inflation over 8 years and see if it still above...

Well, there's always the free, lite version you can use legally. Or just use a good nulled script.
