I've created a notepad file with a simple list of all my urls as follows:http://www.mysite.comhttp://www.mysite.com/page1.htmetc etc....I've saved it as the file http://www.mysite.com/sitemap.txt , uploaded it to the server, added it to my Google webmaster tools account, but webmaster tools gives the following error message:"URL timeout: DNS lookup timeout"What have I done wrong? How old is the site ?In what country is it hosted ?Google probably has the time which servers are willing to wait for somthing to be found set fairly low compared to the average websites' standards due to the volume of data they deal with.If the site was relatively new and hosted outside of the US there's a chance the domain name simply hasn't gotten around to enough trusted places for Googles' fetching server to find an IP for it.// Moved here since it's specific to a Google application. The site is 7 months old, hosted by godaddy. So google won't read a sitemap until a site is out of the "sandbox"?How many times have you tried ?How long between the first attempt & the last ?Now it sounds like you just tried to submit it on a bad day or at a bad time, maybe someone was restarting a router somewhere or somthing between Google & your site.If this isn't a problem that's lasted for more than a day, just wait a untill tomarrow & try again."DNS" errors on systems outside of your control usually correct themselves within a day at the most, in my experience.Alternatively, check the supported formats & make sure your file types & extensions are right, Google could also be sending a generic DNS error message to you if you're using the wrong type of file, though I assume Google would be more specific in their error message for somthing like that.na google will read your sitemap as soon as you make it, my site was 1 week old when it used my sitemap to crawl my site.Make your sitemap in xmlit is your robots.txt file that is made in notepadGoogle will accept sitemaps as plain text files. Also, be sure you're doing this:Google wrote:There are downloadable tools for sitemap creator that can help you without typing any words in notepad.Yeah, e.g. a1 sitemap. However, if you website isn't very large, I suppose notepad will do fine. (Also since you are trying to make a plain text sitemap file)Anyways, a DNS error could indiciate your may have an error in configuration at your webhost / nameserver. If the problem persist, perhaps try post the url? And have us check if we can access the website / sitemap file from our locations around the world.try submitting a XML sitemap..
