Hi,
I now have real-world experience with transferring away from three 'popular' registrars. All three went very well, with no need to bother with faxing legal forms, getting notarized, or extra fees.
Note: All domains must be at least 6 months old prior to transfer.
1and1: 6 domains transfered away. No problem at all, despite their 'shaky' reputation.
Ipowerweb.com: 2 domains transfered away, much easier than expected.
Beware, this is about same owner (me), and new registrar (Godaddy). Ipowerweb does not appear to have free pushes between accounts.
Siteground.com: ('Free' domain) 1 'free' domain transfered with only the need to deal with their customer service once. They had my name on the Whois, but themselves as the only e-mail contact(s). Domain successfully transfered.
I still need to confirm being able transfer two 'free' domains from Netfirms, later this month. They are Icann certified, so it should go well. Has anyone here transfered free domains away from Netfirms before?
MGH
