I thouhg I saw a video by Matt Cutts saying Google could not pass page juice through a double redirect....

ie: Page 1 redirects to Page 2 which is a Redirect to page 3

So can Page 1 pass all the page rank (I know some bleeds off) to Page 3?

And if anyone can find the video Id appreciate it. I think it was Google Webmaster Central on Youtube. 301 redirects are meant to redirect one URL to another.

If you're doing this to manipulate "ranking", you will find out how quickly Google will notice this. Quote: Originally Posted by barrywheeler 301 redirects are meant to redirect one URL to another.

If you're doing this to manipulate "ranking", you will find out how quickly Google will notice this. First you can redirect multiple URLS via a 301 to just one. A 301 redirect is not Just a 1 to 1!

Also we are not doing this to manipulate rankings...we are doing this to clean up our sites full of duplicate content.

How can you use a 301 to manipulate rankings? no idea about this matt cutts post, but in my information 301 is only use redirect url Quote: Originally Posted by rookiethomas I thouhg I saw a video by Matt Cutts saying Google could not pass page juice through a double redirect....

I'd try my best to work it so that there was only a single redirect from old url to new rather than having multiple redirects. We are talking about redirecting a million pages....and to go through and match the old version on a different site to the new version on the main site is impossible.

We have to match the old URL on the closing site to the old URL on the main site. These will merry up. But it will end up as a double 301
