Hey it seems i have been posting a lot lately. Anyhow I was noticing today while researching the backlinks for some websites and then checking their traffic on compete and what i am finding is that a lot of these sites have spikes where they are getting 8k + in traffic a month but then shortly after, the traffic goes down to less than 1k a month. These sites also have upwards of 2000+ backlinks, many created around the date the traffic spiked.
From this I guess i can take away that building a bunch of backlinks at once will not maintain your rankings for keywords.
SO would it be safe to say that building 300 backlinks consistently each month (creating new content each week to of course) would have been a better solution for these websites. And by doing this would it keep you ranked higher for those keywords that were getting you that 8k in monthly traffic?
To me it seems obvious that something worked for these sites to get the traffic up to that level. Its the maintaining that level of traffic that i dont understand. The spike is usually due referral hits coming from the links, not organic search. As example I had a link on a very popular bookmarking platform that created 300 uniques overnight, but the link did very little for organic. And the results deminished as the link was buried deeper in the site. first of all the result from compete is not totally accurate, its just an estimate result. And there is no assurance that every link that you gathered is going to get count as backlinks or return some traffic on your site.. Hi.
It is not necessary that all links collected by you are going to be count because Google takes only good quality backlinks. Don't fix the quantity of backlinks in a specific time. According to my experience, it affects negatively. Keep continue the variations. Variations of submitted links per day is recommended... Avoid link blasting in one day coz you might be penalized by Google for spamming. Make the link growth "natural". Keep in mind that Google frowns on huge amounts of backlinks suddenly appearing. Getting a ton of backlinks may work one time, but it's not going to be a good investment in the long run. Your plan's actually good, but remember to keep it "real". Don't be too robotic in your submissions because just like what searchbliss said, Google frowns on backlink tsunamis. Better keep it natural and consistent... if you can build links consistently, like ranging from 50 - 100 links per day, keep it that way. Don't build 2k links today and stop, it won't work for long-term.
Really, the key for long-term consistent traffic is to create good contents in your website. While you're promoting your website building links yourself, people gradually notice your website and if you have good and valuable contents, these people will link back to your website naturally. Like this big drop is problem, has to care well, I thing continue link building and remove all the affi links, nofollow tags for outbound links, etc.. and change the content frequently for a period of time... Getting back links in bunch is beneficial when you're looking to beat the competitors. If you're already on top and just want to maintain your rankings then it is better to gain back links gradually and more decently. I think 20 back links a week is quite good in that case. You need to be consistent and patient in your work.If you are building 50 or 100 back links in one day, then you must keep doing this work consistently. As its a slow process and takes a long time, thus you need to build back links regularly.Google will take only good quality back links and its not compulsory that all the links collected by you generate traffic. The result from compete is not an accurate one.Its an estimated result.
