Hello,I have been trying to decide whether or not I should have a links page on my new site apopularitycontest.com. It's a new site, so zero pr, probably for months. Who wants to exchange links with a zero pr?Is it really worth giving your visitors a page with nothing but links out just so you can have a lot of back links?My site is new, but I am already getting some natural ones from members creating polls for their site.I've done a bunch of trading links for my road rage site, close to 100. I spent lots of time doing it, get very little return from it, maybe a loss, and it doesn't seem to do squat for my back links. In fact Google just reduced the number I had.Any suggestions, comments?If you are going to trade links only do it with related sites, And it's best to spread the links around your site rather than have a "links page". Google have started to really crack down on what they would call "spammy links" or links that are obviously there in order to increase pagerank. So in the long run unrelated links on a links page will do very little for your pagerank, And more importantlly they will do nothing for your serps.My advice would be to carry on as you are, No link building is as good as organic oneway link building that you have achieved through people wanting to link to your site because they like your content..Thanks for the input...The hardest part for me always seems to be...RELAX. As many I get anxious for more visitors. I think when I was writing that post I had decided not to, but just wanted to make sure.As you mentioned, you have some backlinks. These backlinks will definitely help you. While doing link trading, get links from relevant sites & do not place all those links on single page. Place all those links in your site. So with help of those links you can get more backlinks.I think it is ok to have a links page. Think of it this way, you want to exchange links with other sites to attract traffic and not for google. So there is a natural reason for you to do link exchange. I added a webdirectory page to my site and started linking with other sites. I get some hits from that. I don't think google will treat this as spamming since we have reasons to do it. Do anything ethically. I was a member of a link exchange site which adds my link automatically to other sites and many other links were shown in my site in a links page. That didn't benefit me. So I removed it and added my own web directory page.My site has PR2 and it is 8 months old. Now i have some incoming links of PR3 and 4 . So I am waiting for next pr update to see if any increase in pr.
