If I were building a site, say selling sports paraphernalia, and imagine there are only two teams in the NFL, the 49ers and the Jets. They are totally opposite in location and league, but they are in the Super Bowl fighting to win. I want to sell all apparel, cups, stickers, whatever, that can have their logos and pictures on them.
After putting up a nice site, or before, if I decide to make a 2nd or 3rd site to drive traffic to that first site with tons of content on the Jets/49ers, etc., I need to know.... is it better to create just one outside site with BOTH the 49ers and Jets info in that one, or make 2 separate web sites, one for each, and drive each one to the main sales site? Assume I will produce enough content for both even if I made 2 separate sites.
And if you think it is 2 sites, then are there advantages to making that 4, or 6, or 10? I know after a certain # it becomes negative, especially if all the domains are very new, but I need to know the limits of this method, if viable.
Thanks! I'm thinking it's better to make 2 sites. Let's say the super bowl is over. What would you do with 1 site that was about both teams? Also with 2 sites going, you can focus on local SEO for both and get targeted traffic to both.
If you had 2 seperate sites, you could maintain and update both of them during the off season and next regular season selling stuff, posting news, injuries...etc
You might still be able to profit off of 2 sites when the season is over. Think about the future after the super bowl is over. It would be hard to sell 1 site that was centered around 2 team's. Ok that makes sense too, altho most people say consolidate to 1 as u well know... however, so u r saying to do a third option, forget the one retail and 2 fanboy sites feeding to it, you r saying just only create the 2, but BOTH are retail sites correct? I am thinking, it makes sense that a 49er fan would almost never buy a Jets jersey, but for SEO, is that really the best option? I say make one site. Make it as if it's the Super Bowl. The team which sells the most is in the lead. You can play this up all the way to game time. Have a big score board and encourage fans to support their team to make a come back.
Than when it's over for real. OH NO!! It's Overtime! So you are thinking having say, the Jets fanboy stuff there is MORE motivating for 49ers to buy more in the same site? I mean, what if say, this is for Catholics vs Muslims? I know thats way different, but I am not planning on just making sports sites so I need to opinions on the different views for SEO, thanks. Yes but I wouldn't go their with religion. "Personally". I would with sports. You could use facebook and twitter to place a poll that directs people to your site to vote. If whatever it is your selling is related to the poll, there's your buyer coming to vote.
