I'm sure that these days, these fields (ie Title Tags and Meta Tags - and even for that matter the Title Description) are not as "potent" as they used to be...but surely they must have some positive - and perhaps major - part to play in the SEO strategy of any website. I am just asking as it seems that more and more references are made to the fact that these fields are becoming less and less effective in the current climate of Web2.0 and ongoing developments. Any comments or experiences with this? Yes, I am agree with you. There is no much importance of keywords, meta tags now a days in SEO. Do following to increase popularity:
1. Social bookmarking.
2. Update contents regularly.
3. Article writing, forum posting.
4. Directory submission.
5. Relevant & Quality link exchange. thewebhostingdir: With all what you mentioned are not that important if you have a quality website, you don't need such things. Meta Tags have importance and no one can deny that. The Traffic you generate through meta tags is REAL but by those networks, you don't get real traffic(in most of the cases). As far as the meta tags descriptions, it is one of the most powerful part of SEO and marketing. That allow you to describe the page for SE and your visitors and if you are good at this, you can increase clicks to your site. I still find the title tag very useful. The meta keyword is ignored by Google. As Natural Elements stated, the meta description can play a big role in whether people will click on your listing rather than the one above or below. I don't believe it influences the rankings dramatically though.
The bottom line is adding meta tags to your site and sitting back is not going to work. There is more than that to SEO. Quote: Originally Posted by arty101
