The schema types that are regularly causing rich snippets at the moment are breadcrumbs and reviews. (In Australia anyhow)
If there is a trend it would be away from the other forms of semantic mark-up such as RDFa and microformats. I moved your post from the SEO tip of the day to it's own thread to discuss further. Here is MJ's post for other folks to read first.
