text over graphic w/out layers or as a background?

I came up w/ a nice design and then I tried to print it out. Most ppl don't print their backgrounds so it looks weird w/out the graphic. So then I started experimenting w/ layers. This worked out ok for awhile (I even posted it here awhile back) but I'm still not happy. I'm marketing my services to the creative industry and unfortunately there's a lot of Mac's there & I want them to be able to see & print these pages as well.
I have established that it's mostly not compatible with older browsers but now I'm worried about cross platform as well.
Here's the site: http://www.moonlightmail.com
Pls give me your guidance on this (I did check it out on www.anybrowser.com - are there any other testing sites likes this?)
One of the other things I liked about the layers is the graphic doesn't repeat on extra long pages. But boy does the site look stupid when the layers aren't working!! help!the only way to put text on a graphic without layers is to make the text part the graphic. so actually the text is part of the graphic. you could detect the browser or the OS and load the correct one.and to do this i would need to use maps for all my links right? and slice up the graphics for fast Download ing? i did try this once & wasn't too please w/ the result. bummer.well if you had the text in the graphic and the the text are links than yes I do believe you do need to use maps.
