Subfolders vs SEO - Opinions Needed

I am wondering how much of a difference subfolders make in terms of getting indexed.

For example,
http://www.mysite.com/file.html
http://www.mysite.com/folder/file.html

Will the second link be less likely to get indexed since it is in a subfolder or will it really make a big difference?

You're opinions will be greatly appreciated! Quote: http://www.mysite.com/file.html

Will the second link be less likely to get indexed since it is in a subfolder or will it really make a big difference? The search engines will index almost anything that has a link to it. So in terms of indexing, you won't miss out by using folders.

You might get some benefit from using a keyword in the folder name, as Google takes this into account in ranking.

However, lower priority is given to pages lower in a website, and the further from the domain name you get. So you will have to work harder on other factors to improve that page's position. Google don't select pages to index. Google index pretty much everything it gets.
So there is no problem in getting indexed.
But you will get less domain value passed to the inner pages or inner folders. Yeah, it will be indexed just fine if you make a link or several links to that folder or page. Google optimize every link as separately and also sub folders and the main domain. So need not worry and it wont really make a big difference?

createdelop is right. Your foldering structure means nothing for Google. What does mean - your internal linking structure. If you have:

http://www.mysite.com/file.html - within 3 clicks from the main page, and
http://www.mysite.com/folder/file.html- within 1 click from the main page,

then the last url will get more value for Google. indexing sub folders is not matter, if you are using keywords on your folders and sub pages, it's help you for achieving good result on search engine. Try to make short link as much as it is possible. But don't make every link in one folder. That is also not good. It'll be indexed provided the link is accessible by Google bots. You must take care that the page is linked from the homepage and the preceding pages in the folder structure.
