Subdomain or folder

Hi Guys

I have a little question. I am wondering which is better for SEO reasons.

I am planning on opening a new part to my website. This is going to be a shopping cart.

Which is better for SEO reasons?

http://cart.domain.com or http://domain.com/cart/

The Keyword I plan to rank for is not so competitive if that matters.

Thanks i will prefer the first one as it has cart in it. The first one is better for the same reason Quote: Originally Posted by sfod_d223 The first one is better for the same reason Abosolutely! I never got my question answered here yet. Can anyone else help? Quote: Originally Posted by supportivhost Both of the domains have cart it in apart from ones a sub and ones a folder.

I never got my question answered here yet. Can anyone else help? i think it's safe to say they are spammers looking to get their post count up. they didn't even read it past 2 words lol.

bascially this is what i found when doing the exact same research for my new eco blog. if you do it as a subdomain, then the page rank increase for the sub domain will be increased less for the main domain, then if it was as a subfolder, so if you have say, cart.website.com, and blog.website.com, these are classed as 2 seperate websites as such, but website.com/blog and website.com/cart are classed as the same one. i decided to go with the /blog route and wish i had more time to see how it works out but unfortunately i only just uploaded it online in the last month.

let us know what you find out. Quote: Originally Posted by imadam i think it's safe to say they are spammers looking to get their post count up. they didn't even read it past 2 words lol.

Thanks for READING my post unlike others.

I also thought the /cart would be better. Quote: Originally Posted by supportivhost Both of the domains have cart it in apart from ones a sub and ones a folder.

I never got my question answered here yet. Can anyone else help? As far seo is concerned i'd prefer going with the subdonain as :
1) The keyword cart appears first.
2) A subdomain is considered to be of a higher priority than a folder. You should read this article:

http://www.searchenginejournal.com/s...-for-seo/6849/ I have decided to go with a subdomain.

I am opening a online shop and adding it to our main company website.

Thanks for the help! funny choice as i thought it was leaning towards the subfolder option. what convinced you? I decided to use a subfolder for the blog element of my site. The blog's main page received a decent PR at the following PR update. Sub directories will inherit the properties of the domain its hosted on while sub domain is treated like a completely new domain so sub directory will get ranked quicker provided the domain its a sub directory of is well ranked in the first place than sub domain. plus another benefit of sub directories, you can have unlimited amounts, where as hosts limit you to whatever theirs is, e.g. 3 sub domains.
