I am a student studying Web Computing, I really enjoy doing websites. I have experiance in using HTML, CSS and a bit of php and Mysql. What i need help with is getting experiance and to build up a portfolio while i am studying, so i will have the knowledge and the experiance of web developement by the time i leave university. Any ideas on how to get work and any suggestions/ advise for me?start your own website! pick something you love, find something people might enjoy looking at, and go!yea its on my list of things to do... as i wanna try get some work doing it you see thinking of designing a web site to promote my services as a web designernot a bad idea.. but do you have a portfolio yet? are you in college (at uni.. where are you from )
I've been making websites for student groups at my school for a while. They're easy to get and usually simple, but they give you experience and people learn what you can do. you don't normally get paid much for them, but it is experience. ...... Then, as your skill/name grows, you can expand. Make your own site with the portfolio, etc. Here's an example:
one of my first for my school: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.coloradocollege.edu/students/chaverim">http://www.coloradocollege.edu/students/chaverim</a><!-- m --> - not very good
more recent:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.coloradocollege.edu/students/carnivoreclub">http://www.coloradocollege.edu/students/carnivoreclub</a><!-- m --> - better
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.coloradocollege.edu/students/apprecciate">http://www.coloradocollege.edu/students/apprecciate</a><!-- m --> - better
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.coloradocollege.edu/giving/1874">http://www.coloradocollege.edu/giving/1874</a><!-- m --> - more professional (still needs work)
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.ccbooktrader.com">http://www.ccbooktrader.com</a><!-- m --> - getting up there
my own site - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.hookedonwinter.comno">http://www.hookedonwinter.comno</a><!-- m --> i don't have a portfolio yet thats the problem i want to start building one, but to do it i have to get website built for people/ companys. I have a model friend that i know who is intrested in a Website/portfolio to be built by me, also a local bar have shown intrests to. i am a university student from wolverhampton...i know i haven't mastered everything i need as i said i am good with html and css thats it mainly used php for database access and searching database content but thats it. Just need to get work to help me along with my evolution. Also advise on skills to look into to help with my learning.no i don't have a portfolio yet thats the problem i want to start building one, but to do it i have to get website built for people/ companys. Not necessarily. Don't let the lack of having not done any 'for pay' or 'free but professional' web sites stop you from putting up what you have done, can do.
A good 'free host' is always nice, and an AD-free one, -better!
I host with "awardspce.com", and put some pages that I have done on there, for show & tell purposes:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://joelburdick.awardspace.com">http://joelburdick.awardspace.com</a><!-- m -->
Some of these I did 'for pay', but most are my own personal sites, showing my interests and what I can do. Some of the oldest ones are legacy-builds and have some outdated code but I left them in just in case I ever need to update someone's 'old builds', I can referanced mine.
The site above I have also used to post my assignments for grading, for when I was in college for Internet Publishing (usually removed after being graded, so as to not serve as a cheat-sheet for other-classmen).Thanx i never though about just making up websites just to use for my portfolio, as i thought it would be a bit strange. So so far i am going to make a website to promote my skills have a portfolio avaiable with any website that i have made whether for others or just for myself.. Anything esle helpfull i could do with knowing and doing?A portfolio and personal website/business site.
just with a request quote form. works a treat. from my personal website i've had a job offer within the past few days.....just with a request quote form. works a treat. from my personal website i've had a job offer within the past few days. I really should do that too. As my portfolio/contact site it right now, -it's like trick-or-treating without a bag for my candy... Will give you 6 months hosting free.. descrete IP address... ftp uploads.. 50 meg limit php and mysql support... you can establish new sites as a sub domain.. not search engine friendly.. but the price is right
