SOS need genius type help for website traffic

I'm confused, baffled, feel lame, I need some expert webmaster type help. I'm a webmaster wannabe but haveta be because I have several sites and do not know how to promote them and get them the traffic I want. I read about sites getting thousands of hits a day and whine, why not me? I felt like I was out of the loop and no one was going to give another webmaster and heads up on how to generate traffic to a site. i'm not in competition with anyone unless your another gamer. Can anyone out there help me get the websites out there and get the traffic? I've tried signing on with websitepros and get optimization and advise along that line. Paid them for months and nothing.
