slow loading pages

I have another question for y'all...Is there a way to make the backgrounds on a page load faster...load while text and/or pics load. On some of my pages the backgrounds tend to load last, or very slowly, so the viewer sees a stark white background with the text at first.

The 2 sites that seems to be happening on are:
Thank y'all for helping me....AnnieThe only pratical way to make any image load faster is to reduce the file size of the image.

It is possible to make the content of a page invisible until all the images and anything else has loaded and then display it all at once. This is done using style tags and JAVA script.

An easy thing to do is set the body bgcolor to black if you are using a body background image that tiles to cover the entire background. That way a black background is viewed until the background image Download s and displays.

There is nothing wrong with looking at a white page until the content loads. 99% of webapges are like that.
Kevintrue, only way to make images load faster on the net is to reduce file size. You can go out and buy those expensive programs, setting you back about $70. Or try these online image crunchers!

Here's a spot where you can do compression on line for free:

http://www.spinwave.com/crunchers.htmlThere is a script that you can put on your site that will preload the images on your site. It can be configured to load all the images or it can load all of your sites images. It is good if you have an interface which uses most of the same graphics on all the pages. Not good for a site that has different looks for each page.
You can get the script from here
