Should A Web Page have over 100 links.

Hello first post here. If I sound dumb its because I am very confused about seo.

I was using a seo analysis tool found here http://www.seoworkers.com/tools/report.html. It says that some search engines do not like if you have over 100 links on a web page? .Is this true and is does the tool actually work(is there a better seo analysis tool)?

Also I'm confused as this page ranked on the second page of 6600 + monthly searches (Based on the Adwords tool)based on a keyword until I tried to change the keyword because it was strangely only getting 1 page view a day.
So does google really take link number into effect? And should I change the new keyword to the original keyword

Thanks Google use to have in their guidelines to limit links on a page to 100 links. This has been removed. Here is SEOmoz's explanation of where that number came from:
Quote: Where Did We Get 100?

The 100-link limit actually came from sources within Google and has been restated for years, as recently as a March 2009 post by Matt Cutts, in which he quotes the Google guidelines as saying:
Quote: Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100). The early crawlers capped the amount of data they would process for any given page, due to bandwidth limitations. Ultimately, 100 links was mostly a good rule of thumb for what would fit in a page that met those processing limits.
How Many Links Is Too Many? - SEOmoz Blog January 12th, 2011 More than 100 links is common these days. But as many people will say, program for the user not for Google. Meaning don't confuse your users with too many links on the front page unless you think it looks good to them. Personally I like to keep things proportional to the size of the entire website. For example if you have a website with a total of 200 pages then I might have a navigation of about 30 links on the homepage. But that's just a guess what I'm saying is make it look good for the user and easy for the user to get around.

The only thing to really concentrate on is your one click off the homepage links. Level 1 pages show Google what your site is about and you need to keep your site theme strong and sub seems separated. For example if you are having a site that is all about interior decorations you might have several subsections like drapes, shutters, window frames. And then another section for wall paintings, lamps and other things that are related to how the shopper will view things.

So on your homepage navigation, you might have a total of 20 links with five links to each category or quick reference. And then play with another 30 links direct products and maybe 10 links going outbound to other related websites. Good answers here.

That SEOMOZ blogpost is a good read.

Deepsand, if you are reading this (you definitely are) you should store that pagerank distributing picture from seomoz blog on your pc.
It will make it a lot easier to explain the distributing/diluting of pr when you are on your crusade against pr ignorance. So question is not that how many links should have on a single page.Major point is that if you make more and more links on a single page , you will get less juice transferred. While passing some link juice to your inner pages is important, the usability of the page and not looking like a link farm page would more important I would think.
