HiI have a site in India which gets around 25 Gb traffic a month with some 300 users per day. It also has a vbulletin forum which get some 50-100 concurrent users.My content is not dynamic apart from forums. what kind of server specs shall i go for. should i go for rackspace, right now am on shared hosting .You'll be completely satisfied with a 3 GHZ, 1 GB RAM server. This server will handle up to 130 users with all vbulletin functions turned on.
Now you have two choices:
1. Completely managed server. You can take a server company that also provides management. (rackspace.com , liquidweb.com , servint.com are the most well known companies). Budget alternatives are servstra.com and dedicatedplace.com
About 100 - 400 $ for a 3 GHZ 1GB RAM server.
2. Unmanaged Server with Managed Services from 3rd party company. You can take an unmanaged server and let this server manage from a 3rd party company. Server companies (layeredtech.com ist most mentioned) Management companies (acunet.com <- seems for me the best after reading reviews - although I will only start with them within this month , touchsupport.com ).
About 80 - 200 $ for a 3 GHZ 1GB RAM server.
If you take option 2 be careful to take a good unmanaged server provider, I heard from layeredtech some bad things about that they shutdown your server if it gets compromised and is sending SPAM or DNS attacks ...Hi How good will be AMD 64 Athlon with 1 GB ram. i think rackspace will cost somewhere USD 400. is there any equally good option who will manage server as I have no tech experience and neither i can learn techHi

I have a vbulletin fourm on an Pentium 4 HT 3 GHZ 1 GB RAM and its fast with around 100 visitors online. There are also some tweaks to make vbulletin faster than out-of-the-box, you can ask for them on vbulletin.com/forum -> server configuration forum.
Rackspace is absolutely top notch and therefore very expensive. First they quote the usual "our prices start from 400 $" but you can get far better deals by having a longer contract.
Liquidweb.com seems to handle their jobs also very well. Also take #2 of my last post into consideration and just take a server for around 50 - 100 $ plus server management for around 70 - 100 $.

As far as I know, touch support is a company that provides level 1 and 2 hosting support to clients of the companies that pay them for their services - they are basicly a solution for outsourcing tech support. I am fairly positive that they don't do any sort of server management deals, but I might be wrong. Deep_Blue, please do very intensive reviews before going with one server management company. And listen to what the representatives of these companies write here and if they blame the customers or learn from case to case. PSM for example seemed to have very old (more than one year outdated) standard server hardening procedures, and response time seems also not very tangible.You would run this site on anything over 2ghz. Maybe it's enough, but do not get a celeron, they are far weaker than any pentium or athlon. And do get 1 GB of RAM since vbulletin as a database intensive software needs a lot of RAM.Aha, I think I remember reading over that in the past. My apologies
