I have this keyword that was in >500 in SERP. For 3 weeks I was able to bring it on the top#25. On the 25th of December 2009 there was a bought traffic because they are trying to boost the Alexa and I know it's not good but well, there's no wrong in trying. Yesterday, when I checked the SERP again, the keyword is no where to be seen, it went back to >500. I wonder what happened because it only stayed for a week on top #25 then gone. I cannot say that I overdone targeting the keywords because I just did the normal thing. I know google rankings are like investments in a bloody bank but I'm angry that it seem my effort was gone in the wind.
So, my question now, what do you think guys happened. Does the bought traffic has something to do with this SERP fluctuation? I'm really confused now because i am doing the normal thing and all the keywords fluctuates. or I'm thinking the site is maybe is on penalty? This fluctuations in SERP ranking was so big and impossible. This is the first time it happened to me.
Your advise guys on how to get it back will be highly appreciated. I think it's quite natural, I mean some fluctuation. My advice is to continue the same wya and you are likely to get some results. One big thing is site age, if your site is under a year old then drastic gains and drops are expected. I have seen a few of my sites stable after around 9 months, but not before. Yes buying traffic from anyone besides Google adwords will look very bad if the traffic is coming from links on websites. Let me try to explain (I am like 90% on this) when Google checks your site they will also check the growth of backlinks. Let say you are building 100 or so daily and Google sees this. It becomes the natural growth for your website and any drastic fluctuation could be potential damaging. So you buy 10,000 in traffic from a third parts site they place your link on a few thousand websites and blogs to get you the traffic. Google sees that your backlinks are climbing 10X what they were and thinks you bought mass links or are using some other form of black hat seo to manipulate the SERPs. As a counter rather than put you up at number one they sink you. Anyway this is a possibility if this is the case then it is possible to eventually get out of the slump, but it is also possible that your website will be unable to gain back its previous position. One good sign is you are still on the SERPs and not banned.
A lil video on buying links:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r2vp4x-JtU That isn't a surprise. Expect that every end of the month that there are a sudden big changes on SERP rankings, because Google is updating your backlinks. Don't panic you can still back to your current ranking. I think it is just because of natural google dance, not because your buying traffic. Nothing to worry there, you will eventually rebound and reach your previous rankings (within top 25 spots). Quote: Originally Posted by maxine25

Monthly updates have been long gone.
SERP changing is natural, you dont need to worry, but you should work hard. dont worry dude...if your domain is more than 3 month old then generally they wont penalize you for this much of back linking ...taking the bought traffic and all. Its what people say ..google dance it gives you some shocks but they are always temporary...just wait things will look up for you..!! Drastic changes in SERP happens often.. Continue Linkbuilding in effective manner following White hat techniques. And also check your site for proper and relevant h1 tags, Meta description, and title. It's quiet natural.
But my advice is to stick to white hat SEO techniques.
Don't do any shady things. Get rich content and concentrate on high relevancy link building campaign.
