what is more required for a site off page or on page ? both are required. on-page doesnt need ongoing effort, offpage does.

I would put more effort with off-page though. metatags, link building for backlinkss, traffic and popularity. both are required in seo It's clearly implied that both are required. You have to do first the on-page factor, then do the off-page factor afterwards. both are neccesary to implied, because without those two techniques SEO is not complete and also the site is not qualified to get some traffic and backlinks

both are important but take heed...

first and foremost, make sure your code is clean (no syntax errors etc)...make sure your metas are done with suggested keywords. make sure your content is of quality and with appropriate kws. focus on your site first. submit and go.

then focus on, off-page seo. web2.0 sites, social bookmarking, article submissions for backlinks etc...

don't jump the gun and focus just on off-page... Yes i agree with all my above friends. Both on page and off page are required for seo and equally important to generate good result. Both are needed to do for the site to get its targeted goal. Doing on-page and off-page are both matters to have a good PR. both are important, without on page only do off page is worthless. Thanks for this useful post... Link building or off-page optimization is an on-going process than on page...

Part of optimization - well, search engine marketing - should be traffic analysis. And one should be tracking conversions and testing different on site elements to learn which converts most effectively. One should also test different meta descriptions to see whether clickthrough rate can be improved.

I suppose you might conclude I think on site is more important.

I would put more effort with off-page though. Yeah right, At first you have to put all the keywords you want to rank for your website and follow it up with huge of off-page optimization. After reading mjtaylor's reply, I'm of the opinion that on page optimization is more important than off page. This is the first aspect that needs to be concentrated. Off-page definitely requires more time and patience, while on-page definitely needs to be done correctly and accurately.
