SEO Ranking Question

There is a dot com I am thinking of buying. The only way I can get a dot com of this name is to purchase it with hyphens in between the keywords. The competing websites that are on the first page of Google are big name websites, each with many links, but most all of them have done a really poor job with keyword optimization on the website itself. In fact, the first and second website only has the keywords show up not even 1% of the time. If I create a website that focuses on content rich, on page keyword optimization, shouldn't I be able to compete on the first page with these websites even though I don't have any links to start with? definitely yes, I'm not sure what analysis did you do to the other site.. but as long as you do better than the other site, you can reach higher.. if your on page optimization and off page optimization is well than definitely you can track to other site. Thanks for the advice. use yahoo site explorer and get backlinks from the sites where your top most competitor is getting his backlinks. Then make additional for yourself and you will outrank them in no time. Quote: Originally Posted by damplatz There is a dot com I am thinking of buying. SEO is the slow and steady process if you are starting new site care with your site like, Loading speed(must be low), resolution of the site(It must be support all browsers), Good appearance of the site, follow the google guidelines and much more definitely your site will get good ranking in serps. Wonder if you have considered 2 things:
a) How hard you will have to work to out rank the existing .com squished version of the name.

b) After you do all that work in a) you could be helping the other guys by mistaken identity. i.e. Your visitors forget to put the hyphens in your url.

Why not think of a different name where you can get the squished and hyphenated versions of the name? Name of site not important than as compared to your SEO work,
but its always good to choose the domain name with your focused
keyword.
I will recommend choose plane domain name not with hyphens.
You can high rank on SE if focused on some desired keyword and
use it on your blog frequently and tactically. Quote: Originally Posted by damplatz There is a dot com I am thinking of buying. And you are right in focusing on keywords.

But seo is a work needs time. Just keep on working! ^^ Certainly I don't think hyphen will work in between keyword. You have to be patient if you are thinking of SEO If you can try and upload a video on your site that has to be interesting. It can be helpfull for you. You should also take into account the amount of effort that you will need to invest. Sometimes this effort would have better been invested somewhere else (Remembering my concept of opportunity cost from my economics class ) You have to do more optimization for your website in order to get the rankings. Avoid hyphenated domains, that's a sure way to lose type-in traffic. If You are choosing domain name with Business Related Keywords and Then website should contain Quality content and back links. we can easily bring the keywords in first page of search engine. It depends on how competitive for that keyword. Your strategy by come over with keyword density and on-page factors can be used for low competitive keywords. If you are going to compete with medium to high competitive keywords, you have to build up links altogether. You cannot just have a good on-page factors to compete in those medium to high keywords, especially in Google. I don't think domain name with hypen would be matter, if your site very competitive and you can rank it well by doing a good techniques in SEO there would be no problem. You have to develop and create a strong backlink for your site, so that it will rank. To track your competitors site you just need to build links as much as you can.
