Once an index page has been published for a few years with a certain title and there are many backlinks pointing to this page that have the same textual title will the full positive affect of those links be diminished if the original title of the page is shortened?
For example, the H1 title on my index page used to be "Custom Embroidery and Screen Printing in New Jersey" and I have created a signature file in two industry-related forums that links to that page with links reading "Custom Embroidery and Screen Printing in New Jersey". I recently decided to drop the "New Jersey" part because marketing-wise it might be more limiting than helpful and SEO-wise I wasn't maintaining that key phrase throughout that page the way I should be. But, now that I've dropped the "New Jersey" part I still have lots of backlinks that contain "New Jersey". I can change my signature files to reflect my shortened page title but will I loose the positive affect of the existing backlinks? Backlinks aside, I think I'll have a stronger page SEO-wise with the shortened title. Since the title is only shortened and not completely changed will I only loose a small amout of positive affect from the links while possibly gaining from a stronger page that clearly supports my shortened title? What should I do to maintain the strongest SEO for this page? Thanks!
Jennifer I doubt that it will have any effect
It may reduce the SERP of your site with the keywords associated with the previous title, knowing how much the title contributes to keyword targeting. It does not affect your serps nor does it matter. Page content is far more important than the page title these days. If you have the right anchored backlinks and relevant on-page content, you would rank for the keyword even if it does not appear on your page title. If you change your backlink anchor text, you would literally attract more visitors with your shorter key phrase provided there are actual searches for these.
Relevant Page title and meta descriptions attract more click throughs, as it is, there are many results on any given page and searcher would not necessarily click on the top most results but the result that seems more relevant to their search. it has no effects at all Hi, Jennifer
1. Tweaking contents of title tags would not affect your back links but would affect your ranking.
2. Changing contents of back links anchor text would also affect your ranking.
All the best, If you wish to change your title tag than you will have to do extra efforts for promoting your site on that keyword and if you are talking about changing your signatures, than I must say that you will loose your backlinks. Definite it will effect Ur keyword serp ranking because Ur listing is appears related to Ur keyword .....so don't try to edit ur previous keyword or title add some more keyword and optimized according to them.........
