I'm consfused.I've built a site and I want to get it listed with a search engine. I know it might take some weeks or months but I'm sat waiting, I've put keywords into my site and I've added a description.I've just read about somethings called PR's, what are these and do I need them?I don't want to do something wrong and mess everything up as everyone is relying on me to do it right...gulp!If you want to improve your placement in search engine results pages, you should do some reading. These are good resources: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners.phphttp://www.highrankings.com/forum/index ... wtopic=833For what it's worth, as long as you have links to your pages that the spiders can follow, you don't need to submit your site to a search engine.EDIT: Sorry, I'd already recommended you do some reading here: http://www.ozzu.com/other-google-information-and-resources/newbie-need-serious-help-t66939.html, but I guess you haven't had time yet Sounds like you have a lot to learn still, but your on right track. I would start researching all of OZZU and ask questions as you have them.SEO takes months to years for good positioning, depending on the keyword phrase your after. Here is a good way to start. It's Brett's 25 steps to a successful site:http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htmSearch engine takes time to list any new site. According to me, just submit your site in directories. Directory submission helps in getting traffic to your site. So search engines automatically find & list your site.PR is page rank. This is given by search engine. If your backlinks are more, with high quality, then it helps in getting high PR. When your PR is high then it means your site is popular. If you want to get knowledge about seo then, click hereHi, I'm fairly new to SEO too, probably about a year now. I would say don't get hung up on PR as I did initially, One of my sites now only has a PR 3 but is beating several 4 and 5 sites in Google. I think it used to have more imoportance in the past, but now just seems to be relevant for people who sell links. You will probably go into the sandbox for 6 months when you launch your site, so just work on a nice steady link building scheme and (carefully) submit to DMOZ as soon as possible. You do not need waiting for weeks to get listed, by being on a few directories that are refreshed often, you can get listed on MSN in a cuple of days and on Google and Yahoo in a week or less.PR (pagerank) is not that important anymore as it was before. How more relavant links pointing to your site how better. Partically Newbees needs plenty backlinks but dont do this automated. Many marketers buyng useless software and spamming and jamming SE's while they haven't any idea how many links you can add to a SE. I advice 4 a day to Google and the best to do this is getting links form "Search engine friendly directories" or from links already listed i.e. Google. Backlink managent can be done in several ways such as Creating inbound links to client websites through one-way linking, reciprocal linking or 3-way linking campaigns, and paid directory submissions to increase web page link popularity and internet traffic . Direct link arrangement between two websites wherein each site exchange URLs by placing a link on its site to the other and vice versa. 3-Way, Triangular, or Chevron Linking This may also be considered one-way links in the sense that Site A-provided by Client or JNB WEB PROMOTION if the client prefers not to link out to anyone to get links to their site- links to Site B and Site B in turn links to Site C (Client site).
