Scrren resolution

Hello,<br />

I design my pages on a 17" monitor which has 800 by 600 pixels resolution.well, when i view my pages on larger monitors like 19", i see lot of empty space.How can i avoid this empty space ir-respective of the monitor size.<br />

what are the standard guidelines everybody follow with respect to screen resolution??<br />
