Restore to default without loosing posts & members

Basically after much abuse of my VB I'd like to restore it to default settings. Is there a way I can upload my forum to another FTP and just keep posts & members and basically left with a default forum?

I know I can compare my FTP files with the VB folders, but theres got to be an easier way lol.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry I should have explained a bit better. Basically, I've been modding my forum, for some time now, but when removing products ect, I havn't removed all the files from the FTP. Now when I add any product, all Admin, Supers & Mods loose there edit, button. the only way to get it back is to uninstall the product in product manager.

Now I believe this may be down to all the left over bits of crap on my FTP.

So basically, I'd like to delete all the files off my FTP and reinstall a basic VB, with no hacks installed just the default folders, but restore all the members, threads & posts.

Then I can just add the hacks again, and in future make sure I remove all files when removing any hack.

That can when you back-up your database. You can this do it in your admin cp and then Maintenance and then you click on Back-up Database, click all on yes, and click then on ok. You saved the file that you can saved on your pc, and your post/topics/members are be saved. When you the new installing have been done, you placed the back-up back.

Does not the db also hold all modification that were done> That is why we back up is to restore if we mess something up ...... can you not go to your ftp and do a binary overwirite of the files?

I'm not sure I'm not that advanced when it comes to running my own forum lol.

Normally when I back up & restore my forum I do it through my Hosting CP, which works fine for me.

If I do the back up from ACP, can I select, just the parts I'd like to back up such as posts, threads & members?

I have a sub domain, I could upload a forum to for testing purposes.

a bit more info would help, mainly just your vb version. Though you may want to use the vbteam/gysn release as a while back i used a different one awhile back, the DGT i think, and from time to time my staff would loose all mod powers.

If your running all plug ins and no code edit mods then all you need to do is install a clean copy of vb in a sub folder so it is mydomain.com/forum2 or something like that. Then just set up impex and it should be self explanatory from there.

To back up and choose what to back up

go to AdminCP > Maintenance > Forum Backup

select what to backup and choose a name for ur backup file (it will be name.sql)

then continue

you will find the backup file in the root folder of ur forum (where index.php is)

download it via ftp or normal file download

Right I know what your talking about, I'll give it a whirl an see how it goes thanks everybody for your input, you'll be hearing from me soon lmao.
