Reorganized website Google hits dropped

I reorganized my website structure and since I have done that my hits from Google have drastically decreased. Is this a common occurance or am I experiencing something not good?Was any text removed from the site that might have contained key words? Sometimes I don't think that there is any rhyme or reason to google's hits and page ranking system.You would need to give more info, did your link structure change?CHanging your structure is something that will likely create a temp drop in google's traffic/referrals, it could well return to normal once google re-indexes your site.Changing page names/structure should be done with care, you may have links pointing to old pages that are no longer there, how did you deal with that? Have you redirected any traffic hitting old pages?301'd pages/directories to their new location/structure.It is common, you could slowly increase again but may not quite fully recover for a while if you didn't take great care to make sure that spiders are told about the old pages being directed to the new one's.Either way just keep an eye on what google has of your site by typingsite:www.yourdomain.comHave a look and initially it willl list your old pages, this will change when you are spidered again and hopefully your traffic will increase again.For an example I had:http://www.site.com/stuff/I took the stuff folder and broke it's contents into more folders so now I have:http://www.site.com/stuff/things/http://www.site.com/stuff/blah/So yes some of my links changed but not all of them. I didn't rename any files.I didn't put in any 301's since the stuff I reorganized was newly created content, maybe a week old at most. I'll keep an eye on my traffic and see how it goes. But I did notice the day I did the restructure is the day my google traffic slowed.Shouldn't really have happened that quick then and one week old content being restructured would be unlikely to affect you much when restructuring so I'd presume my first assumption was wrong, unless you had older established content that was changed and lost the traffic that way.Do you have a decent stats program that can help you track down the drop of SE traffic, whether it relates to dropping in the serps for certain keywords words or a certain area of the site?Or if it was structure change & whether there were a lot of 404 page not found errors in the logs.I use Google Analytics. I'll keep an eye on things and see how it goes.
