I have a Wordpress plugin that will "Removes common words like 'a', 'the', 'in' from post slugs to improve SEO."
Im just not sure if this will actually help or hurt it since I see some big name sites who do not remove this in their urls? Disable the plugin. You can always manually edit your post slug yourself. It's located below the 'Title' while Adding or Editing a new post.
Many a times, removing such characters will leave your URL looking meaningless which can cause a hindrance to referral/direct traffic that may arrive by seeing your URL somewhere and trying to make sense out of it.
You wouldn't get much seo benefits either by removing these characters.
