redirection affects ranking

hey guys i am managing a site asd.com and i have redirected the .net and .org part of it to the main site...i was wondering if this effects the ranking in google...is this positive or negative?It's neither positive nor negative as long as you used a permanent redirect.cool...1 more thing supposedly i had a site asd.com and then i shifted it to asd.org..but the asd.com is a redirect to asd.org...will i lose all my links etc?redirecting your website to some other site which may be your main site can create some problems or you have to give penalty for this . so don't redirect your site. site redirecting is a black hat technique according to google point veiw.Quote:We run a PR8 site, and the owners wanted to change the name of the site.We moved the site, and used 301 on ALL pages of the old site to point to the new site.During the next PR update the new site automatically became a PR8 so I guess it was safe to say the 301 worked well and brought all the existing rank over to the new domain.oh cool thanks a lothi,redirecting your website to other site is not always harmful. but it depends upon the site you are redirecting to. if you are redirecting your site to some porno sites or some sites like gambling sites then definitely you will come across some complications like you are playing some black hat techniques to rank high or some thing like that.but according to my point of view it is better to avoid the website redirecting. some times it comes with the sense of cunning with google.Hi guys, yes as rudradatta said, if you redirect to other sites that have lower page rank than you, or to other sites that are really not in "good relationships" with google, you better avoid these approaches. or you'll get punished too As the original post specifies that the redirecting is to/from the same domains different extensions, i.e.posterssite.net -> posterssite.composterssite.org -> posterssite.comthe redirecting if permanent (301) will be perfectly positive.
